Wool companies stall on NRA plea for oestrogen ban

The wool industry has failed to respond to calls for a voluntary ban on alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs), a group of toxic and persistent detergents which have powerful oestrogenic effects on fish. The National Rivers Authority (NRA) asked for the phase-out in February after high APE levels were found in rivers receiving wool scouring effluent.
