Associated Octel pays £290,000 for chemical fire

A serious chemical leak and fire at Associated Octel's lead additives works at Ellesmere Port, Merseyside has resulted in the company being fined £150,000 for breaches of safety legislation. Investigations by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that poor maintenance procedures, spill containment and emergency shut-down procedures contributed to the severity of the incident.
