Battle in Brussels over Auto/Oil programme

Major improvements in urban air quality in Europe should be achieved by 2010 by new vehicle emission limits and fuel quality standards, according to a joint study by the European Commission and the oil and vehicle industries. Initial legislative proposals are due in June - but environmentalists have accused the Commission of caving in to intense industry lobbying on several key measures.
