Another two renderers win air pollution appeals
Environment Secretary John Gummer has upheld appeals by two more animal rendering businesses against local authorities' refusal to grant them authorisations under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The decisions make it even more improbable that any local authority will be able to withhold an authorisation on the grounds of a company's past pollution record, and also suggest there are very few circumstances in which they can explicitly require emissions from any process to be free from offensive odours.
