Supermarkets set to lose soya bean battle

UK food retailers seem set to lose an important early battle in their efforts to ensure that customers are informed about goods containing genetically engineered products. Formal confirmation that segregation of genetically modified soya beans from ordinary beans will be impractical is expected at a meeting in September with Monsanto, the producer of the modified bean, and the American Soybean Association (ASA). Consumers may have to avoid all products containing soya in order not to purchase any of the genetically modified variety.
