"Fossilised" monitoring of organics fails to protect environment

Official strategies for monitoring toxic organic chemicals have become "fossilised" and are failing to protect wildlife and the food chain, a conference heard in September. Research sponsored by the National Rivers Authority (NRA) and water and chemical companies has uncovered previously unknown pollutants in the Mersey which may be having significant environmental impacts - highlighting loopholes in statutory controls.
