Industry forces Agency to reconsider on toxicity-based discharge consents

Toxicity-based consents for industrial and sewage discharges are set to become a new weapon in the Environment Agency's armoury for controlling surface water pollution. But a barrage of criticism from industry over its initial proposals has forced the Agency to remodel its plans. It has overcome industry's objections by promising a second and more comprehensive pilot project which it hopes will demonstrate the scheme's feasibility.
