EC blocks trade threats to environmental agreements

The EC has blocked moves to impose tight restrictions on the use of trade measures for environmental purposes in talks held by the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Ministers will consider proposals to extend the WTO's controls to cover international investment as well as trade - a move that carries new implications for the environment.
