River life improving, new survey finds

A new system for assessing the biological quality of rivers has shown improvements in almost 26% of river lengths in England and Wales between 1990 and 1995. The system provides a valuable new window on water quality and will help to pinpoint areas where rivers are adversely affected by toxic discharges.
