Phosphate pollution shock for arable farmers

Scientists have found that arable farming may be a significant source of phosphate in UK freshwaters - the major cause of eutrophication problems such as algal blooms. The findings by Rothamsted's Institute of Arable Crops Research (IACR) will necessitate a major re-evaluation of the environmental significance of diffuse phosphate inputs from farming.
