DWI's crushing setback over Torbay crypto case

The first attempt to use epidemiological evidence in support of a prosecution of a water company for supplying "unfit" water ended in disarray on 18 September when a judge ruled the material to be inadmissible. The decision means that South West Water was found not guilty of causing a major cryptosporidiosis outbreak in the Torbay area in 1995, and may require changes in the law if water companies are to be held to account for allowing contamination of water supplies.
