UK in symbolic shift on North Sea pollution

The UK took a step towards repairing its image as a reluctant partner in efforts to clean up the North Sea at the annual meeting of the Oslo and Paris (OSPAR) Commissions in September - though its policy shifts on radioactive and hazardous discharges and dumping of radioactive waste and offshore installations are of limited immediate significance. OSPAR, meanwhile, is still some way from finalising strategies and objectives on these and other issues ahead of a key ministerial conference next July.
