Effluent treatment chemical manufacturers to phase out APEs

Ten major manufacturers of polyacrylamide emulsion compounds used in wastewater treatment have agreed a Europe-wide phase-out of the oestrogenic surfactants alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs). Meanwhile, major US and Japanese chemical companies have formed a defensive alliance to protect APEs from the threat of impending environmental regulations.
