Report highlights benefits of increasing newspaper recycling

Diverting newspapers from landfill would bring "considerable" environmental benefits and boosting production of recycled newsprint in the UK would improve the industry's competitiveness, according to a report for the Newspaper Publishers Association (NPA). But doubling the current voluntary target for the recycled content of newspapers to 80% could cost up to £650 million. Meanwhile, as part of a bid to boost recycling of packaging waste, calls have been made by an advisory group for newspaper producers to be made financially liable for increasing newsprint recycling.
