Meacher issues challenge on environmental reporting
Environment Minister Michael Meacher has written to 120 of the UK's largest firms who have not yet published environmental reports and urged them to do so. Mr Meacher calls on the companies involved to discuss their environmental policy at their next board meeting, to carry out a review of their environmental performance, to set targets and report against them. He also reminds companies that the Government is still considering "whether an element of compulsion is needed to increase reporting." The initiative follows Mr Meacher's recent "naming and shaming" of companies which had failed to publish environmental reports (ENDS Report 279, p 6 ).
