Polluted site clean-up projects
The Environment Agency has begun work on a £40,000 scheme to clean up the site of the former gas works at Tiverton in Devon. In 1995 a dam had to be built to prevent oily waste, diesel and other contaminants leaching into the river Lowman and threatening the main source of drinking water for Exeter. The latest phase of work involves treating contaminated water on site before discharge to a sewage works.
