Cement industry wins go-ahead to burn waste paper and plastic

The combustion of waste in cement kilns is set to escalate following an Environment Agency decision to permit Castle Cement to begin trials with burning packaging waste and other paper and plastic wastes. The move will reduce coal consumption - but may fuel conflicts with recycling interests.
