Belfast council takes a lead on greening its supply chain

Belfast City Council has adopted an environmental purchasing strategy which focuses on "greening" the operations of its suppliers rather than setting environmental specifications for products and services. Because most of the companies are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and it has a limited choice of suppliers for some products, the council is not pushing them towards certified environmental management systems.
