Tough security measures in DWI proposals on new crypto rules

Unprecedented security measures to ensure that sampling and analysis of drinking water for the stomach bug cryptosporidium are carried out to a standard acceptable in criminal proceedings have been proposed by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI). They feature in draft protocols which will back up proposed new regulations on monitoring for cryptosporidium. The regulations are set to be modified following strong criticisms from the water industry - with water companies now to be required to conduct risk assessments of their supplies to determine whether continuous monitoring is required.
