Vandals land developer in court
Morrison Developments has been fined £8,000 with costs of £665 for allowing oil to pollute the river Tame. Birmingham magistrates heard that the company was redeveloping a derelict site which included four oil tanks and a boiler system. In November 1997, oil leaked into the river after vandals tampered with a valve. The Environment Agency argued that the company had left a large volume of potentially polluting material open to attack.
