Thames slow to recover from TBT pollution

The Thames estuary is showing only limited recovery from pollution with tributyl tin (TBT) antifouling paints over a decade after legislation banned their use on smaller vessels. A survey by the Environment Agency has found that some populations of sensitive dogwhelks are increasing along the north Kent coast - but researchers believe that a complete ban on TBT will be needed to achieve a full recovery.
