More lettuce growers fined

The Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) has prosecuted two growers of winter lettuce for using pesticides contrary to approval conditions under section 16(12) of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985. In October 1998, Peter Booth pleaded guilty to two charges before Ormskirk magistrates and was fined £450 with costs of £1,000. In November, Alan Macbeth pleaded guilty to two similar offences at Elloes magistrates court and was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,553.
