What is World Environment Day and what does it mean to you?

World Environment Day is a chance to put environment matters at the forefront of the global agenda. There is nothing more important than sustaining our planet and making it a better place for current and future generations. This concerns everyone and I would particularly encourage those working in the industry to take the opportunity to reflect on your role and seek ways to enhance your awareness of environmental issues further.

Why should we champion jobs in the environment sector?

The environment impacts on everyone regardless of your job role but environmental awareness in large corporations is ever increasing. There are more exciting and diverse career paths in the environment industry emerging all the time which are attracting new talent to the sector. These jobs are helping to save our planet so it’s important we recognise their contribution.

Which environment jobs are having the most impact on making the world a better place?

All career paths in the industry play a part in positively impacting on our planet - particularly jobs in air quality, conservation and sustainability. Even if you feel your role is a small one, collectively with industry peers you are working towards a bigger and very important goal to make the world a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable place to live and work.

What opportunities are there for environmental professionals to make a difference?
Forging a career in areas such as renewable energy can be incredibly rewarding and lucrative. Work that has been done in such areas ensures we’re fulfilling our ongoing energy needs whilst preserving our environment.

What are the most forward-thinking companies doing to promote environmental careers?

We work with several major environmental consultancies that are leveraging multiple platforms to recruit the very best talent. The most successful recruitment campaigns I have seen tend to utilise online and print media, targeted emails and various traffic drivers to ensure the organisation is interfacing with the widest candidate audience possible.
