EC proposals on incineration may scupper several UK plants

Several municipal and clinical waste incinerators in the UK will fail to meet the limit for carbon in ash proposed in the draft EC Directive on incineration, the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Communities has heard in recent evidence. The Committee has also received projections from Environment Minister Michael Meacher that between 50 and 177 new municipal incinerators will have to be built over the next ten years.
