Fine for ink pollution

Merseyside ink maker Sterling Colours was fined £4,000 after admitting polluting a ditch with blue dye. Knowsley magistrates heard how a tributary of the Ditton brook was polluted in August 1998 by the company's poor storage and management of materials. Sterling was fined £4,000 on 5 March and ordered to pay costs of £1,120.
