Company goes scot-free after admitting water pollution
Scottish opencast coal company GM Mining has been let off with an admonishment after admitting polluting a trout stream. The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) "strongly disagreed" with a statement made by the company in court, but was not represented at the hearing and was unable to refute it. The case appears to be another example of how the Scottish legal system favours polluters.
