Industry admits flame retardant pollution, resists phase-out

The brominated flame retardants industry is resisting proposals to phase out one of its least commercially important products, pentabrominated diphenyl ether. Manufacturers are defending the product by attributing the contamination of the environment and human breast milk on past uses and cigarette smoking.
