London Mayor's strategic role on transport, waste and air quality
Strategic planning for spatial development, transport, waste and air quality are among the duties awaiting the Mayor of London and spelled out in the new Greater London Authority Act. 1 There are powers to tax road users and workplace parking - and to spend the proceeds on transport projects. And, breaking new ground in waste management, the Mayor will be able to direct boroughs to comply with his municipal waste strategy.
