Government refuses to give sustainability steer to GM crops
The Government has rejected recommendations by the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee that it should steer the development of genetically modified crops in a direction which helps reduce the environmental damage caused by agriculture. 1 But it has shifted position on the commercialisation of GM crops while large-scale trials to assess their environmental effects are under way.
