Guidance on fish farms downplays environmental threats

Growing concerns over the impact of salmon farms on the marine environment are poorly reflected in recent planning guidance and advice issued by the Scottish Executive. Although the guidance recommends curbs on the industry's expansion, it does little to draw attention to problems such as the threat to wild salmon populations from parasites, eutrophication and the increasing frequency of algal blooms.
