National Power on the rack over FGD

The sale of Drax power station will leave National Power exposed as the only major coal-fired generator in Britain which has no operating or planned flue-gas desulphurisation (FGD) equipment. Meanwhile, the Government has approved the use of natural gas in several coal-fired stations - raising questions over the "best available techniques not entailing excessive cost" (BATNEEC) for reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide.
