General Motors phases out PVC from vehicle interiors

The world's biggest car company, General Motors, is to phase out the use of PVC in most interior applications by 2005, in part because of environmental considerations. Although many car makers in Europe have been quietly seeking alternatives to PVC for many years, the company's decision to go public has dealt another blow to the plastic's image.
