Food firm in the dock for repeat pollution offence
D&M Foods of Westbury, Buckinghamshire, was fined £10,000 after admitting polluting a river with food wastes. Buckingham magistrates heard that the pollution was due to drainage from an area of hard standing entering a watercourse. The company had been tipping wastes on the area and food waste had been washed off by rain water. The company was fined £10,000 on 1 October and ordered to pay costs of £1,500. The Environment Agency said the company had been convicted of an identical offence in 1998 and had been advised to build an effluent lagoon. The advice had been ignored.
