Revolution in Northern Ireland waste management takes shape

An ambitious programme to upgrade Northern Ireland's waste management infrastructure has been set out in the province's first statutory waste strategy. 1 The strategy sets a target to recover 40% of household waste by 2010, proposes various initiatives to develop markets for recycled materials - and pledges to clamp down on sub-standard waste disposal operations.
