DETR slates "over-precautionary" EC sludge proposals

The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) has told the European Commission that its latest proposals for revising the 1986 EC Directive on the use of sewage sludge in agriculture are "over-precautionary" and will "severely limit" the amount of sludge used in UK agriculture. It has proposed less stringent metal limits based on its own research, which it says also include "an element of precaution".
