Sunlight increases PAH toxicity 1,000-fold, researchers find

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are up to 1,000 times more toxic to marine organisms when they are exposed to sunlight, research sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture has found. The findings may explain widespread deformities seen in fish larvae in coastal waters and lead to greater pressure for reductions in emissions.
