By his own admission, Interface's founder Ray Anderson had never given the environment a second thought until, in 1994, he needed to make a keynote presentation at an internal meeting to review the company's environmental position. What he read about global environmental degradation in preparing for the meeting led him to set a new mission for Interface: to make it "the first name in industrial ecology world-wide through actions, not words."
