Labelling, subsidies insufficient to boost energy efficient appliances

Labelling and subsidy schemes will not be enough to achieve a significant increase in demand for energy-efficient appliances, according to a report part-funded by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR). The report highlights weaknesses in the subsidy schemes run by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) for condensing boilers and cold appliances, including the lack of education tools and incentives for retail staff to sell energy-efficient goods.
