Alarm raised over tunnel repair chemicals

Norwegian researchers have sounded a warning that chemical grouts used by engineers to repair water leaks in tunnels and other underground structures could result in "considerable" local build-up of toxic chemicals such as acrylamide, acrylic acid and di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP). The UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommended last month that acrylamide-based grouting agents should be banned across the EC.
