Commission adopts proposals on recovery of electrical equipment

The European Commission has finally adopted legislative proposals to oblige manufacturers to pay for the treatment and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The proposals are now split into separate Directives on waste recovery and on hazardous substance restrictions, while a third Directive on standards for design and manufacture is being drafted by the Commission's Enterprise Directorate.
