At the G8 summit in July it was the UK which claimed credit for the establishment of a high-level task force to examine ways of achieving a step change in renewable energy supplies in developing countries. And, after Mr Blair had prodded G8 leaders to do more to tackle illegal logging in virgin forests, the Government announced new measures to end its own purchases of timber and wood products from unsustainable sources (ENDS Report 306, p 27 ).
