"Serial polluter" fined £7,500 for massive china clay waste spill

French-owned minerals giant Imerys, formerly English China Clays, has been fined £7,500 after pleading guilty to polluting a Cornish river with thousands of tonnes of mining waste. Although the company claimed that it was not a "serial polluter", it has ten previous convictions for water pollution offences since 1995.
