UK waits for EC state aids clearance for climate levy

The European Commission has kept the Government waiting until days before the climate change levy enters into force before announcing whether it is compatible with EC state aids rules. Brussels will need to decide whether steel producer Corus should benefit from a levy exemption for coke following a complaint from a competitor. Meanwhile, 41 sectors had signed climate change agreements by late March - with a big surprise being the inclusion of the four main food retailers.
