Celtic Energy fined £7,000 for river pollution

Neath magistrates fined Celtic Energy on 21 February after it admitted polluting the Afon Dulais with coal silt in December 1999. The river was affected for a mile downstream of the company's Onllwyn coal preparation plant in Neath when its settlement lagoons were overloaded. The company admitted the offence under section 85(1) of the 1991 Act and was fined £7,000 with costs of £1,840.
