UK pressing for small business exemptions from WEEE Directive

The Government is optimistic that the costs of proposed EC legislation on electrical and electronic equipment will be sharply reduced by exemptions for small businesses, Industry Minister Patricia Hewitt has told a House of Commons hearing. But views on when mandatory collection of waste equipment should begin remain polarised among both governments and industry, with some arguing for a lead-in of 18 months but others demanding five years.
