Most brominated flame retardants are oestrogenic

New research by Dutch and Swedish scientists has found that the two most widely used groups of brominated flame retardants - polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polybrominated bisphenols - mimic the female hormone oestrogen.1
