The Environment Agency has issued an enforcement notice to the operator of a coal-fired power station at the mouth of the river Usk, near Newport, after it breached a condition in its integrated pollution control (IPC) authorisation. AES Fifoots Point received the notice after a 10-minute unabated release of smoke and dust on 13 June. It was the fourth such incident in as many months. The notice requires the company to commission an independent review of plant design and operation.
