Mixed feelings as Bonn climate talks succeed

After more than three years of hugely difficult negotiations, a global meeting in Bonn agreed on 23 July how the Kyoto Protocol on greenhouse gas emissions should be implemented. The deal rescued the Protocol from the brink of collapse following the US administration's decision to reject it - but the compromises made in the process have weakened the pressure for industrialised nations to reduce their emissions.
