The Agency has issued an enforcement notice on Corus' Llanwern steel rolling mill after it breached four conditions of its IPC authorisation. The action followed an incident on 18 September when around 1,500m3 of water containing hydrochloric acid was released into the Severn estuary. The release had a pH of 2.6. The leak occurred after workers drained the contents of the water tank into a bund which had a hole in it. The notice requires Corus to review its systems for handling acid, to make repairs and to review training and maintenance procedures.
