Tighter controls for Scotland's private drinking water supplies

A crackdown on the quality of larger private drinking water supplies has been promised in a consultation paper issued by the Scottish Executive.1 The move is being driven by EU legislation, but the paper breaks new ground in highlighting the health risks posed by microbiological contaminants in private supplies, including the pathogen cryptosporidium.
